The catastrophic attacks yesterday on the Tal Al Zaata and Al Fakhouri schools in Gaza, killing scores of internally displaced Palestinian civilians, are an unbearable outrage and extremely serious war crimes.
Attacks against sheltering families are a horrific inevitability when hostilities are being systemically conducted outside the very strict civilian protection boundaries provided by international humanitarian law.
We urge the UK Government and Labour Party to unequivocally condemn these grotesque school attacks and urgently revise their untenable position of refusing to support an immediate ceasefire when unremitting serious violations of international law are being committed.
This should be supported by demanding legal accountability and fully supporting the International Criminal Court to carry out an impartial assessment of the facts and clearly determine the perpetrators. Accountability for grave criminal wrongdoing is an absolute imperative.
