Yesterday afternoon there was an important House of Commons debate on annexation and settlements.
We were pleased to see Stephen Kinnock MP (who opened and closed the debate) and Alyn Smith MP (SNP Foreign Affairs Spokesperson) conclude their speeches with two key recommendations on action against settlement expansion that closely align with the two substantive recommendations made by LPHR in our short briefing circulated to MPs.
The transcript of the debate can be read here. We recommend reading Stephen Kinnock’s and Alyn Smith’s presentations to the debate. They were both excellent in their substance and tone.
This parliamentary debate took place a couple of days after a tweet from Minister James Cleverly that showed him in participating in a virtual meeting with the ‘Palestine Platform’. LPHR participated in this meeting; specifically we co-presented with close colleagues at Amnesty International UK on the key issue of ongoing settlement expansion.
Our government and parliamentary engagement on critical human rights and international law issues will continue.
