Yesterday, a cross-party group of 39 UK parliamentarians submitted a short letter to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, urging her to immediately publish the UN business and human rights database which will list companies involved in settlement-related activities that infringes human rights of Palestinians.
Their letter has been submitted during the 42nd Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
The letter briefly sets out why the publication of the UN database is urgent and critical. It also includes a brief critique of the UK government’s position of resolute opposition to the UN database.
The letter demonstrates that there are a good number of UK parliamentarians who fundamentally disagree with the UK government’s position, and publicly support High Commissioner Bachelet’s immediate publication of the UN database.
The letter reflects points made by LPHR in our January 2018 briefing on the UK government’s position on the UN database, which remains directly relevant to this day.
Please do read the letter here. It was originally published early yesterday evening on the twitter account of Richard Burden MP here.
